Cheat sheet: A few randoms you may have missed this week….
Congratulations MM – you survived the week! To ensure you are compelling dinner party/BBQ guests this weekend, I have rounded up news-worthy and trivial moments the past seven days have brought us. Memorise, partake in several sneaky sav blancs and appear to be absolutely on-your-game.
Rob Lowe and Ginnifer Goodwin look the part of John and Jacqueline Kennedy in the National Geography movie Killing Kennedy. Can’t wait to see this. Here’s hoping Rob nails the Boston accent. GG is brilliant as Jackie on looks alone (sorry Katie Holmes).
ORANGE LIPS MADE A COMEBACK
Makeup Artist Gucci Westman took inspiration from Brazil for Rag & Bone’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. “It’s the first-ever lip adventure—I’ve done a stain, but never anything this full-on,” she told style.com. A blend of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Carnival and ColorBurst Matte Balm in Mischievous (out in January) was applied lips with precision using a brush.
My fave orange lipstick is from Sportsgirl. It’s called Orange Crush and costs $10. Best of all, it stays perfectly put and delivers hard-core colour. Brilliant.
KATE MADE A GLITTERING APPEARANCE AND HIRED A NANNY
Kate left George with Carol and frocked-up for the Tusk foundation gala dinner at The Royal Society in London. William, who is a patron of the Tusk charity, announced this week his retirement from the military. Meanwhile, his beloved childhood nanny Jessie Webb, moved into the royal household to help Kate care for George full-time.
23 THINGS EVERY WOMAN SHOULD STOP DOING
Loved this column by Emma Gray for the Huffington Post. A great read. Here are my favourite three things to stop doing :
Apologizing all the time. Research has shown that women actually do say “sorry” more often than men. We’re all for taking responsibility when you make a mistake — but constantly apologizing for having your waiter split the check or asking a date to hang out on a different night or telling a friend about your problems, does more harm than good. There’s no need to qualify everything you do. Own your preferences and decisions.
Comparing your real life to someone else’s virtual one. Spending a ton of time obsessing over your own online life can be anxiety-provoking — but so can obsessing over other peoples’ virtual personas. Research has shown that Facebook addiction is correlated with lower self-esteem. And who wouldn’t feel bad sitting in bed on a Monday night scrolling through your ex’s vacation photo album or the enthusiastic statuses your friend in the fashion industry posted during a celeb-filled party? Instead of playing a constant game of comparison, which studies have shown can actually magnify feelings of depression, just close your laptop and enjoy the present. At least it’s real.
Worrying that your life doesn’t look like Pinterest. You are not Martha Stewart. You will probably never make that DIY floating bookshelf. And your Eggocado will never look as delicious as this one does.
STREET STYLE IS ALIVE AND WELL
Who said street style is dead? Loved the slew of ‘stylebait’ strutting their stuff in New York City this week. Check out veteran street photographer Bill Cunningham stalking his prey in the first pic .. Fantastic!
KEY LIME MILKSHAKE
We are all about ice-cream at the moment. Spring just does that to you. We’ll be ditching the ice cream store this weekend though and whipping up a bit of this madness. Soft, silky ice-cream with tangy lime and a touch of crunch. Heaven.
Key Lime Milkshake
(via Sweet Basil)
- 2 Cups Tillamook Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- 1-2 Pieces of Key Lime Pie, chopped
- 1/2 Teaspoon Lime Zest
- *Milk if needed
- 2 graham crackers
- 1 Tablespoon Butter, melted
- 1 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
- 1/3 Cup Powdered Sugar
- Grind the graham crackers into crumbs, and add the butter until just moistened like wet sand.
- In a large bowl, using a hand mixer, mix the heavy cream until stiff peaks begin to form. Add the powdered sugar and mix until sweetened and stiff peaks return
- Place all of the ingredients into a blender and turn onto low, mixing until just combined. Pour into a large glass and top with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs.
BATTLE OF THE BLOGGERS
I weighed in on a blogging debate for Grazia magazine. Who is doing it better – the unpaid mummy blogger or the smart young thing blogging for cash and front row fashion week seats. Call me crazy but I, of course, was for the former….
GOOP X STELLA McCARTNEY
My two fantasy BFFs teamed up on a chic capsule collection of cool (expensive) fashion basics and celebrated with an English garden party. All the recipes are at goop.com. I am hijacking the mini fashion and chips for dinner – OMG!
Have a great weekend MMs!
