How to fake a healthy Sunday night dessert – Baked Apples
Meet my new after-dinner addiction – salty-sweet baked apples. Super-quick and a cinch to prepare, here are some my mini-Blumenthal whipped up earlier. A little overdone tonight but absolutely delish all the same.
Thanks to the stellar combination of sea salt and maple syrup, they give amazing flavour whilst the chopped walnuts provide a good cRuNcH!
Best of all they are healthy, low-fat and downright virtuous… up until the ice cream hits the plate.
Eat shamelessly in front of the television with a little decaf and cream on the side.

FAVOURITE BAKED APPLES
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A pinch of fine sea salt
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup
- 6 apples
- Preheat the oven to 175° C.
- Mix together the raisins, walnuts, cinnamon, salt and maple syrup in a small bowl. Place the apples in a baking dish and stuff each with an equal amount of the rasin and walnut mixture. Bake until the apples are soft, 35 – 45 minutes, depending on what variety of apple you’re using. Serve hot, warm, or at room temperature, being sure to spoon the juice from the baking dish over the apples.
